Electrode implantation surgery in the brain to treat drug-resistant epilepsy for the first time in the country
For the first time in the country, brain electrode implantation surgery was performed in Shahoda-e-Tajrish Complex to treat drug-resistant epilepsy.
Dr. Alireza Zali, neurosurgeon and president of functional neurosurgery research center, explained about this surgery: In the recent years, one of the innovative methods used to treat drug-resistant epilepsy is stimulation of the deep parts of the brain (DBS). He stated that this patient was selected for the surgery based on several consultation sessions of an expert team. In this type of surgery, if it is possible, we remove the seizure focus, but because her lesion was located near the speech center, it was impossible to remove it, so DBS was done for this patient.
